Writers often use spring as a time of renewal, which can include revisiting goals, starting new writing projects, and renewing commitments to ongoing projects.

Here is this month’s collection of recent online posts that will help you cope with feelings of envy and doubt, and motivate you to keep writing and get published!

1. You’re Just Jealous!

Author Robin Black recently wrote about an issue that’s a struggle for many writers: envy. Jealousy is a natural feeling and writers are certainly not immune from it. And hopefully, you’re not jealous of every writer.

I like this blog post for three reasons.

  • Robin’s post gives us, as writers, permission to feel jealous, rather than shaming us and leaving us with this feeling.
  • The post gives good advice on how to handle and cope with feeling envious of another writer.
  • It also does a great job of pointing out one important factor that determines if we will feel jealous of a certain writer’s success.

2. Why Do You Write?

Do you sometimes think to yourself, “Wait. Why am I doing this?”

It’s always a good idea to revisit why you write, even if you’ve written for years and have had some success as a writer.

Author and writing coach Noelle Sterne shares helpful, practical tips on how to take the question “Why do I write?” and turn it into actual steps you can take to improve your writing and to start, continue and then finish your next article, blog post, book, among other types of writing pieces.

3. Do You Want to Get Published?

It’s time to get your writing published, now that you’re feeling (a little) less envious, and you know why you’re writing.

Author Erica Verrillo is sharing a great list of websites that will help you get your short story (or stories) published.

I hope you find these posts to be helpful in getting you motivated to keep writing!
